Golden Nugget or Mandalay Bay?

I am going to book a standard room at one of these two hotels......preferably connected rooms, as the wife, son and I are also going to Vegas with my parents. Is one more family friendly than the other? I am aware the Mandalay Bay is a little more in price but don't mind as long as we might be able to use some of the facilities without having to worry about being around a rough (drunk crowd). Then again, maybe both pool areas are like that. I guess I am just looking for your experiences and perspectives. Also, do you know if either one of these hotels can set up a crib in the room for my toddler, and if so is there nornally an extra charge?Golden Nugget or Mandalay Bay?
I'd choose Mandalay Bay since it's on the strip. although Golden Nugget is one of the better downtown hotels.

The pool area at Mandalay is big, so you can usually stay away from rowdy crowds (which aren't all that common). There is a wave pool (must be 4ft tall for that) and a lazy river, as well as more traditional pools. It's considered one of the best pool areas on the strip. Mandalay also has the Shark Reef aquarium, which your son would probably enjoy.

Most all hotels can provide a crib, and most don't charge. But I don't know how Mandalay or Golden Nugget handles that.
Definitely Mandalay Bay. The Golden Nugget is the best hotel downtown and most "Strip-like" and would be my choice if you wanted to stay Downtown. It is in the center of Fremont St whereas MB is at the very southern end of The Strip.

MB easily has the best pool in Vegas, great dining choices and plenty to see and do, though.

Just be aware that there are no connecting rooms in eitherGolden Nugget or Mandalay Bay?
MANDALAY BAY, i just went there. For your son, they have an awesome wave pool. Not many hotels have a wave pool. The rooms are also very nice. I'm not sure about the crib.
Mandaly bay is the way better choice.

Golden nugget is on fremont street, the kinda trashy part of vegas, lots of old drunks
Just depends if you want to stay in old vegas or strip .... Strip is nicer, old vegas is probably a better price.
If those were my only two choices. I would go with Mandalay Bay.

Our favorite "family friendly" Las Vegas resort is the Orleans, but their pool is nothing like Mandalay Bay

http://www.orleanscasino.com

The Orleans has a "Kids Tyme" %26amp; they do have cribs

Their "strip view"** rooms(16th - 19th floor / even numbered rooms 02-44) have the most breathtaking view of Las Vegas. If you're in the middle somewhere(1624 / 1732 / etc) you can see all the way from the Luxor and Mandalay Bay to downtown Las Vegas.

**we always just ask for one when we check in, and when/if we get the room we want we slip the desk clerk $10 or $20 depending on how long we're staying

The Orleans also has one of our fav buffets.

I live here (LV)

You already got a clear answer that Mandalay Bay is more family friendly. Golden Nugget is an older crowd very fancy and definitely downtown instead of at or near the strip - great price for what you get, but neither "kids" nor location. try smartervegas and vegashotelspecial for the direct booking deals. put in the www com 's

Planet Hollywood Towers is great if you can get a price deal for the rooms - especially the 1 room suite. Beautiful and connected to a mall.

Only Imperial Palace and Bill's Casino get a drunk crowd (and the unmentionable Hooters). Desert Rose condos sometimes, but they have 2 bedroom condos available and not far off-strip. Watch for the "resort fee" daily charge in adding numbers. Caesar's chain does not have, but many others do.

If setting up a crib, room size may be a consideration more than the fee to get it in.

Pools are outdoors. Weather OK through this month - then, don't know it varies. Mandalay Bay has a wave pool. - The base room size is 550sq ft at MB. That is larger than average- that's about it
Go with Mandalay Bay on the strip! Go with Golden Nugget if you want to be downtown which is the best hotel BTW downtown. Not sure about the baby stuff, you may want to call. MB will not have the drunk crowd, probably a little bit of adult coming from the clubs late morning but you wont really notice it! MB has the better restaurants and pool! Try RM seafood or the burger bar and get a burger with lobster on top, OMG excellent! It's a very nice place to stay if you don't mind either a hike or a cab ride down LV Blvd. (or the tram, never forget the tram), and their selection of restaurants is nice and varied -- from burgers to Aureole to happy hour sushi.

Their pool area is very large, and they even have an amusing little inflatable raft float-along. The hotel itself is kept very nice, I've yet to see a run-down spot. The shark reef is a fun family trip (or bored twentysomething to-do trip). The pool area was flooded with people but still enjoyable. if you're coming with your family you may want to rent a cabana bc it's pretty hard to find a chair let alone a bunch all in a row.

With golden nugget

It's one of the best downtown VEGAS hotels to stay at! Clean nice rooms, inexpensive, friendly saff ,loose slots. Try vic and antony's restaurant! Its KILLER! The pool is something that most definitely stands out. Not only because it's one of the few pools in the Old Town, but because it too was renovated and it has some exciting new features. To begin- Poolside Gambling- not a novel concept, but pretty sweet non-the-less; lounge chairs in the shallow waters of the pool- again not novel, but still pretty wonderful; and finally- an aquarium in the middle of the pool. Yep- that's right- I said aquarium. Complete with sharks and large fish the aquarium is seamlessly designed to sit in the center of the pool, and looks to be part of where you are swimming. To top that off- there is a water slide directly through the center of the aquarium that shoots you back out into the pool. Another bonus- if you're not staying in the hotel you can get a day pass for only $20, and it's well worth it.
Mandalay Bay

Just Follow the signs in Mandalay Bay's Lobby to take you to the Foundation Room Elevators. The lounge is on the top floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and is both a restaurant and cocktail lounge. The staff is classy and professional. And once you've experienced it, you'll find yourself setting the bar high for any other lounge in comparison. Cool and hip decore, decent music, and without a doubt the best view in Vegas. You will find authentic artifacts from India and Tibet, intricately carved wood-paneled walls and lush fabrics which lend an Eastern, mystical ambiance. Great music, great drinks, great service and a great view.
