Are you a chief? What would you say you make a year? Project for school?

Im helping my brother do A project for Finance park. Its basically where you make up your career and family and what not and make a budget. I would like to know as a chief, how much do you make a year...sounds silly, but im looking for a well paid chief..not really one who works at applebees or anything like that..maybe one who cooks for a yatcht? something like that. Also if its not to personal..how much you pay for insurance through your company..thank you :)Are you a chief? What would you say you make a year? Project for school?
First of all, it's Chef. A good chef can make up to around $80,000/year if they work for a very high end, high volume restaurant, but $40,000-$60,000 is more typical of a real head chef that works for a restaurant and gets profit sharing.

Chefs do not work at Applebees unless they are going through hard times. Those are line cooks who make between $8-$12/hour and use photos to figure out what the food is suppose to look like.

A Chef usually trains for two to four years before being able to take over a kitchen and they have a lot more to do than just cook. There is food ordering, figuring out how much food has been sold and how much has been used, hiring and firing and training. Every item on a menu has to be figured out how much it costs to make and what price it should be sold for.

Some chefs go to culinary school where they learn how to manage a kitchen and learn the basics of baking, meats, fish, chicken, vegetables, sauces. It take many hours and practice to be able to cook and manage and most culinary schools cost over $20,000 to complete.

As for insurance, they may be able to get it through a big hotel but most chefs pay for insurance through a private company.

I am working as a chef now in a small restaurant and I make $600/week. The other cooks who work for me make $10/hour and the dishwashers make $8/hour. This is pretty typical in a small restaurant.
Wages vary dramatically depending on a variety of influences. Here are some places to look up wage information:
