Should I stay at the golden nugget, hooters, excalibur?

I have to agree with baludwig in that it depends on what you're looking for. Of the three, I'd say the Golden Nugget is the nicest. Personally I wouldn't go to any of the big hotel/casinos to stay unless they were comping me though. Station Casinos and Arizona Charlie's are the two chains in Vegas that have reasonable prices, and you can always go from there to the strip or to the three you mentioned in your question to gamble and see the shows....

Oh, avoid the Coast Casino chain, as they like to rip their customers off. Just my own personal experience...Should I stay at the golden nugget, hooters, excalibur?
How did you come up with those three choices?

Hooters is kind of a dump for college kids who want to fantasize about Hooters girls, off the strip on Tropicana Ave. Excalibur is a family oriented budget property on the south strip. Golden Nugget is a luxury resort but over 2 miles off the strip on Fremont Street.

It's three totally different experiences. Golden Nugget is by far the nicest place but will also be the most expensive and is also not even close to the strip.

If cost is a concern and you want to stay on the strip, I suggest either Mandalay Bay or Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon. These are the two best values for your money on the strip. Mandalay Bay is very upscale and luxurious; Bill's is less expensive and less luxurious but is the best of the budget properties. I stayed at Bill's for my 19th trip to Las Vegas and I was impressed with the room. Not the property itself, just the room.
Not Excalibur. My husband and I stayed there and hated it. Its on the farthest end of the strip, you have to navigate a convoluted route just to get to a bus terminal, the place was dingy, and the time share people are worse than anyone else.

My husband and I stayed there because it was cheap. We didn't think anything of it when we booked it, because we aren't snobby when it comes to places. We figured we hardly spent time in the hotel anyway, so it didn't matter. We were wrong. I would rather cut my vacation short and pay extra anywhere else rather than go back there again!

I've never been to Hooters, but I'd recommend the Golden Nugget. People always say how far away Fremont is. It's true you have to take a bus, but quite honestly, unless you are into paying outrageous prices for everything, Fremont is a better place to stay. Since they are older hotels, they tend to give more perks, the food is cheaper, they have the old slots that actually drop coins, everything is closer, and in general, you have better luck gambling. You just need to buy a bus pass for unlimited rides in a 24hr time to and from the strip.

My husband and I are going in June and we are staying at the Fitzgeralds.Should I stay at the golden nugget, hooters, excalibur?
Depends on what you are looking for, but excalibure has the best location in regards to the strip out of the three, but was always geared more towards kids. Hooters isn't too far off the strip, but I always here that place is going to close. Golden Nugget will give you an old Vegas experience being right on the Freemont Street Experience with plenty of casinos in stumbling distance.

If I had to choose though, I would go for Excalibur just becuase of location.
The Golden Nugget is the nicest hotel downtown. Excaibur has downplayed the King Arthur/Merlin fantasy them but still caters to families with kids. I wouldn't even consider Hooters.
