I'd major in business related courses, depending on what's good in your area.
As for money, most people seek investors and loans. Often the franchise companies will help in providing loans for it because it's in their interests to expand their franchises %26amp; name brand. Either way you'd need good credit history and a great business plan with lots of research and planning.
Look at specific companies and their requirements. For example, IHOP

(BTW, Starbucks isn't a franchise, surprisingly)
Of course you don't know how to do that stuff. That is what college is for. Talk to the business departments at each school. You will most likely major in entreprenuership or business managment. Each school will have different setups so find the best business school and then tell them you'd like to own your own business. You will get an academic business advisor when you go to college. Talk to him or her. They are very helpful when deciding these types of things. You could also email a college advisor now. You might be able to find them on the schools website.Want to own a franchise?
First of all, there is a process when opening you own franchise. I went to school and majored in business administration. It now helps me to better manage my own businesses (McDonald's %26amp; Burger King). To open any franchise you have in mind will cost a minimum of $330,000. I worked for 15 years managing someone else business. I made about $500,000. From there I looked into opening my first franchise. I got a loan from the bank (hard to do these days) and used half of my own money. I had to wait 4 years until I finally started to make a profit. Starbucks is not a franchise, therefore you cannot own your own.
Getting the money is up to you. There is no magical answer, for many franchise owners the business is just an investment in their portfolio (portfolio's don't have to just be stocks) and they don't even manage them. If you want to, I suggest looking at Restaurant Mgmt with a minor in business if not accounting. Or you can go the other way and get a degree in Business or Accounting with a minor in Restaurant Mgmt. Sometimes it's called Hospitality Mgmt, etc. Either way just make sure accounting is a big part of it.
One way to get the money, is create a business plan/model and get a loan. Just expect to lose money the first year or two. Most franchises do, simply due to start up costs, etc.
